Resource Allocation for Video Streaming in Wireless Environment

چکیده
This paper focuses on the development of a new resource allocation scheme for video streaming in wireless networks. The technique utilizes the 2-weak burstiness curve which has been defined as the (1− 2)-percentile of the maximum burstiness curve. We show that the 2-weak burstiness curve is a convex non-increasing function of the service rate. We also devise a “water-filling” algorithm to obtain the empirical 2-weak burstiness curve. The technique has been applied to MPEG-4 encoded video traces. The numerical studies show that if the 2-weak burstiness curve is used for resource provisioning, a considerable percentage of bandwidth will be saved.

As wireless technology evolves towards its fourth generation (4G) of development, the prospect of offering multimedia services such as on-demand video streaming and video conferencing to wireless mobile clients becomes increasingly more viable. The eventual success of such applications depends on the efficient management of the limited system resources while taking into account the time-varying...
متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
